The attached pictures were found and taken at Ose-zaki of the west of Izu Peninsula, Japan. I think this is one of Gastropteridae and rare color pattern. Please help me for identification. I have been calling it 'Hinomaru-umikocho' in Japanese.
Date : 5-Jun-2001
Location : Ose-zaki,Izu peninsula, Japan
Depth : 26m
Length : approx 8mm

Upper picture was taken as I found it.
Lower picture looks like it is flying as background is out of focus. But actually is not.

Kinoshita, H., 2002 (Jan 24) Gastropteron viride from Izu Peninsula, Japan. [Message in] Sea Slug Forum. Australian Museum, Sydney. Available from http://www.seaslugforum.net/find/6061Dear Haruo,
It is only 3 weeks into 2002 and we have already got quite a few exciting new finds sent to the Forum. I have not seen a photo of your animal before but I am sure it is Gastropteron viride which was described from a single animal from Sagami Bay. If you look at the Fact Sheet I have included a copy of the original painitng of this species. I think the green colour in the painting is probably the artist's way of showing the greenish tinge we can see in your photos.
It is a very interesting find,
Best wishes,
Bill Rudman
