Trapania? from Sulawesi, Indonesia

Dear Bill
Any ideas on this slug from Tukang Besi, SE Sulawesi, Indonesia. Photo by Adam Powell.

Length 3.5 mm. Non-retractile rhinophores - dark brown with irregular white markings. It curls anterior mantle upwards and backwards to protect rhinophores when tested. Dark brown marking behind and between rhinophres same colour as these. Gills are present behind / alongside large lobe appendages on the dorsum. Notum is white with yellow margin to mantle. Extended pale yellow oral veil. Comment was that it looked like a moose when moving along as it dramatically extended its oral veil. Striking chestnut brown markings on side of foot (made up of small brown dots).

Thanks,
Lindsay Warren

Dear Lindsay,
I am not 100% sure but I think it is a species of Trapania. I'm not sure from the photo or the description whether it has a pair of lobes at the front of the body, alongside the rhinophores, like the ones by the gills. Have a look at the other species of Trapania illustrated in the Forum. It has similarities to the Hong Kong colour form of Trapania toddi. However the description of the raised oral veil (and apparent lack of oral tentacles), don't fit Trapania very well.

Bill Rudman.
