Siphopteron? from Hachijo Island Japan

Dear Bill,
I would like to send you two pictures of Siphopteron. This May, we could see many variations of this species on the inner reef shallower than 10m in depth. Mainly around 10mm in size. Sometimes we can see them mating. Most of them look like the upper picture but the color variation seen in the lower picture was also seen last year. I think they are same species. Could you please tell us what you think.

Dear Shouichi,
I agree they are the same species, and I think they are the same as those in Haruo Kinoshita's earlier message. I suspect this is a species of Gastropteron as the siphon at the posterior tip of the head shield is less elaborate than in species of Siphopteron. I have looked through the literature but can't find a name for this species.
