Wollongong region, south coast of New South Wales
The best intertidal sites to find nudibranchs in the Wollongong region are on the north facing reefs at Bellambi and Shellharbour. The reef at Shellharbour extends right up to Bass Point where sheltered, boulder filled pools can be found. These pools are prime molluscan breeding sites and the eggs of several species can often be found under the same boulder! Unfortunately, the reef at Bellambi can be some what smelly at times due to the close proximity of a primary treated sewage works. The marine area around Shellharbour is currently threatened by a proposed 350 berth boatharbour/marina development.
