As the name sugests, this book deals with sea slugs from the tropical east Pacific coast of central America from Guatemala to Ecuador and also the Galapagos Archipelago. It is in English and Spanish and describes, with colour photos, about 160 species.

It is the first and only guide to the opisthobranchs of the tropical  eastern Pacific and so gives us a valuable insight into the relationships of this fauna to the vast Indo-West Pacific faunal region. As you would expect from the authors, there is an excellent introduction to shape and anatomy, aspects of their natural history, and how to study them.

For anyone with an interest in opisthobranchs, or the fauna of this region, this will be a valuable addition to your library.

New books on the East Pacific fauna

February 18, 2006
From: Bill Rudman

I've been a bit slow in posting reviews on these two excellent additions to the opisthobranch literature. The first covers the fauna from Alaska to southern Mexico, while the second nicely starts in Guatemala, covering the southern part of the tropical East Pacific to Ecuador and also the Galapagos Islands. Best wishes,
