Superfamily: EUDORIDOIDEA
Family: Discodorididae

Known at present from the Philippines and Indonesia

PHOTO

Batangas, Philippines, May 2001. Length approx 5 mm. Photo: M.D. Miller.

This pale yellow species has a series of black lines running out to the mantle edge across the mantle skirt. The inner end of each line widens into an irregular spot. The rhinophore club is black and there is black on the upper part of each gill. Like other species of paradoris, the mantle tissue is packed full of opaque whitish spherules. This species has been recognised by Dayrat (2006) as Paradoris sp. C. It has imilarities to Paradoris sp. 1 which has a pattern of black lines.

Re: Philippine Unknown

Dear Bill
Here is another image of Erwin's unknown from the Philippines. We have also seen it in the Batangas area. The animal is rather small, usually in the range of 5mm or less which makes underwater photography difficult without special adaptations to bring out the features of the animal. It was found at Batangas, Philippines, May 2001

Dear Bill,
Here is another photo of the unknown dorid. I changed my equipment - now I use a NIKON COOLPIX 990 in a housing, the quality of the shots is much better, but i can't do enlargements afterwards. This specimen was collected and sent to Antonio Perrone, so we must wait to his comments...

Dear Erwin,
This looks as though it may be a species of Jorunna. Can you check your photos to see if there is any sign of caryophyllidia, the furry, spiculate papillae that members of this genus have all over their mantles.
Cheers,
Bill Rudman
