Dear Bill:
Concerning the identification of the species of Notaspidea from Canary Islands the Pleurobranchus species is P. garciagomezi. This species has also been found in Madeira Archipelago, about 300 Km northern Canary Islands.

I have split your comments into three messages, one for each species. It's nice to have such instant feedback.

I think it looks like the photo of Pleurobranchus garciagomezi Cervera, Cattaneo-Vietti & Edmunds, 1996 in Peter Wirtz's paper "Opisthobranch Molluscs from the Madeira Archipelago" (1999) Vita Marina 46(1-2):1-18 at

Koehler, E., 2000 (Apr 12) Pleurobranchus from Canary Ids. [Message in] Sea Slug Forum. Australian Museum, Sydney. Available from http://www.seaslugforum.net/find/2257Dear Erwin,
It certainly looks like the photo in Peter Wirtz's paper, but in the paper it is just identified as Pleurobranchus sp. There is a note that he has sent speciens to Lucas Cervera so perhaps Lucas identified it as Pleurobranchus garciagomezi.
I'll ask Lucas to give us his opinion on this species and the two other pleurobranchs from the Canary Ids [Pleurobranchaea sp. 1; Berthellina sp. 1] that you have sent.
Best wishes,
Bill Rudman.
