DISTRIBUTION

Common at least along the northern Mediterranean from Turkey to Spain, and reported on the Atlantic coast from Morocco north to southern England.

Body translucent white with large patches of dark brown, green or black scattered over the back. Similar markings of the same colour are found on the sides of the body below the erect and branching gills arranged along the edge of the dorsum. The oral veil has 3-4 unbranched tentacles on each side of the midline. A small species growing to about 15mm in length.
