Concerning message #9401:
Hi Bill and everyone!
During a 3 hour dive at Old Woman Island we found 17 species of Opisthobranchs including Hypselodoris babai. The animal was quite striking when first approached. Richard Willan found this species a while ago at the Outer Gneerings. It was quite a nice surprise to find it here!
Locality: Old Woman Island, Sunshine Coast, 13 m, Queensland, Australia, Pacific Ocean, 06 December 2008, Subtidal. Length: 32 mm. Photographer: Gary Cobb.
Cheers

Thanks Gary,
Although I promised along time ago I still haven't added my records of this species from New Caledonia. It's nice to get your record from eastern Australia. It is also nice to get the photo of it with the dysideid sponge Euryspongia which is the preferred food of quite a number of species of Hypselodoris, including H. bullocki, H. apolegma and some species of Mexichromis. With the usual proviso that we can't be 100% sure it feeds on this sponge without an everted buccal bulb or feeding scars, this is a valuable first indication of this species' food choice.
Best wishes,
Bill Rudman
