Armina sp. 1. from Philippines
April 3, 1999
From: Erwin Koehler
Dear Bill,
I found two species of Armina, one with black foot and red-orange border (see photos here), the other with a pale blue foot and yellow border. There were lots of both species at this place, nightdive (my dive no.1000), Philippines, Negros Is., El Dorado housereef, March 1999, 8 - 14m
depth.

Dear Erwin,
Thanks for the pics of this species and the other similarly coloured species which I have labelled Armina sp. 2. The arminids are an interesting group which still need a lot of work. There seem to be 10 - 15 species with black and white longitudinal lines down the body. They have other slight colour differences and major radular differences. We don't know yet whether each 'species' has a restricted distribution or whether all species have a wide Indo-West Pacific distribution. Perhaps each species feeds on a different food?
Best wishes,
Bill Rudman.
