Photos of Hypselodoris babai
December 14, 2000
From: Bob Bolland
Hi Bill,
I hope the Loyalty Islands trip went well. I'm enclosing some images of the newly described Hypselodoris babai Gosliner & Behrens, 2000. The animal is one listed on the Forum as Chromodoris? sp. 5. I have additional information concerning this beautiful animal on the Okinawa Slug Site http://rfbolland.com/okislugs/hypsbaba.html
All images are of the same individual and is one of the two designated paratypes (RFB #3791, notum length 39mm, collected on 16 May, 2000, from 53m at Seragaki, Okinawa.
Reference: Gosliner, T.M. & D.W. Behrens. 2000. Two new species of Chromodorididae Mollusca: Nudibranchia) from the tropical Indo-Pacific, with a redescription of Hypselodoris dollfusi (Pruvot-Fol, 1933). Proc. California Academy of Sciences, 52(10): 111-124, 7 figs.
Cheers,
Bob

Bolland, R., 2000 (Dec 14) Photos of Hypselodoris babai. [Message in] Sea Slug Forum. Australian Museum, Sydney. Available from http://www.seaslugforum.net/find/3286Dear Bob,
This message was a nice surprise for me when I got back from Lifou. By great coincidence, one of the first animals found on Lifou was a specimen of Hypselodoris babai. Angel Valdes, who was with me in Lifou, and I puzzled over this animal. I felt I had seen it somewhere before but wasn't sure if it was described or not. It's nice to know that if we had had internet access I could have found it on the Forum. It is indeed a beautiful animal.
When I get all my photos processed, hopefully I will have some of this species to post on the Forum.
Best wishes,
Bill Rudman.
